Sharpen the Saw....

There is something special about the last week of school before the winter break. Probably a mixture of excitement about the holiday season, gift-giving, holiday parties, time with family and some much needed rest. Let's face it, once the school year starts, educators are furiously working to give everything they have to their scholars. The winter break provides educators with a crucial opportunity to practice some self care.

1. Allow yourself time for those things that are important to you. Whatever traditions or practices make you happy, do them. Don't feel guilty for saying No. Make the most of your short vacation to rejuvenate and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

2. Live in the moment. It is very easy to get caught up in the hype of the holiday season and actually forget to enjoy it while it is happening as we are worried about the things we must accomplish at a later date. Experience the moment, live for what is happening at the time and soak up as much of the moment as you can.

3. Take stock of your joys. Take some time every day to identify and celebrate the things in your life that you are grateful for--in short, take some time to count your blessings.

The holiday season can be stressful and difficult for some people. Take the time to care of yourself and the people closest to you. Pamper yourself, you deserve it.
